Annabel is an Aussie writer, director and photographer.
Annabel’s family comedy LUCKY DOG was a quarter finalist in the BlueCat Screenplay Competition in the U.S., selected from 4,500 feature films. She’s a UCLA screenwriting graduate, an AFTRS directing graduate and she has a Communications Degree.
Annabel started out as an assistant director on productions such as FARSCAPE, OUTRIDERS (Abbie Cornish) and THE NUGGET (Eric Bana). She then spent five years in casting working with Australia’s top casting directors: Emmy award winner Christine King (HUGO, WOLVERINE, AVATAR); and Kirsty McGregor (ANIMAL KINGDOM, TOP OF THE LAKE). Two years at The Audition Room at Fox Studios further developed her sharp eye for performance; shooting tests with Australia’s top talent such as Chris Hemsworth and Joel Edgerton.
She moved on to write and direct award winning shorts and TVCs that have screened at festivals all over the world. Her short MAMA ALWAYS TOLD HIM took out the prestigious First Prize, Best Short Comedy at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and screened at over 15 international festivals. She has been a Tropfest finalist and has sold her films to national broadcasters. Together with SCREEN AUSTRALIA, she directed an interview series with the world’s top documentary filmmakers including Oscar Winner Simon Chinn (SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN).
Passionate about nature and wildlife, she’s also directed material for Earth Hour and the World Wildlife Fund under her company banner, Undercurrent Pictures.
Annabel feels at home working on thrillers and horror. She also loves dark, quirky comedy with an edge. See Upcoming Projects for more information.
The daughter of a photographer, she specialises in infrared photography, wildlife and landscapes.
